She appeared twice on HBO’s “Def Poetry Jam,” and is published in books including “Word Warriors: 35 Women Leaders in the Spoken Word Movement” and “City of the Big Shoulders: An Anthology of Chicago Poetry.” ![]() ![]() Marty McConnell tours to perform her poetry and lead workshops. He teaches creative nonfiction at Northwestern University and at Columbia College Chicago. ![]() He is the author of the 2006 memoir "The After-Death Room: Journey into Spiritual Activism," which chronicles his journey reporting on AIDS activism in Africa, Asia and America. Michael McColly's essays and journalism have appeared in The New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, Salon, The Sun, Ascent, and In These Times. He is a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist in investigative reporting and has won numerous national and international awards. His investigations have led to indictments for murder and other crimes and have sparked sweeping reform. Gary Marx is a longtime foreign correspondent and investigative reporter at the Tribune. ![]()
